18/06/2018 5.30pm - 7.30pm
Location: TechHub Swansea, Swansea, SA1 1NW
HackTheCity is the event for turning your innovative ideas into future projects for hacking the city's resources! You don't need to have any tech expertise (although this is advantageous), you just need a problem or idea that you'd like to discuss on 'hack' on with a likeminded group of individuals, in a super informal and friendly environment. We collect a small payment (of £2) at the beginning of the night and then everyone gets to pitch their idea. The winning pitch gets the door money and they come back next month to talk about what they did with it.
What we'll do
We will get together and discuss the hack format, problems that people bring and ideas that people want to share. A guest speaker from TheThingsNetwork.Wales will kick off the session with a fascinating insight into the free and open source network for IoT applications, for Wales and the surrounding region.
What to bring
Ideas, problems and energy to hack on great ideas!
Important to know
You need to bring an idea or a problem to solve.
Area of innovation being demonstrated
The future evolution of our cities is critically important, cemented in the fact that we are becoming an urbanised species. Currently more than half of the world’s population are living in towns and cities - a trend that is forecast to continue. Yet the majority of our city infrastructures are based on inherited historical layouts and systems, which are often out of sync with the status quo. Consequently, some of the key issues facing our urban centres include increasing population density and proximity, social and individual well-being and environment and resource management. Addressing these issues will require shifts in governance, thought-processes and structure. This is where the hacker mindset comes in!
Who should attend?
Whether you’re a techie or a technophobe, this event is for you! It’s open to anyone with an idea to share.
